Edu, the kennel owner, is alive and seems physically well but he is in shock. Nobody rescued him even if the rescue services were contacted several times for almost 12 hours. They were collapsed. So many people are trapped or missing, so only one person and dogs weren't the priority.
Most roads are still closed but his son could go to the road near the kennel that is higher and throw him food over the fence. Some dogs were barking. We don't know the extent of the damages and the animal deaths.
The kennel has been there for at least 8 years and has never been flooded. The problem wasn't the rain that fell down yesterday, the problem was that a nearby canal overflowed and hit the kennel like a mini-tsunami. In less than half an hour, the water was up to Edu's waist. He tried to open cages and to grab small dogs to put them in the house that is in the kennel.
Imagine trying to walk with water on your waist and with currents that move you like you were in the ocean. He was alone and there were approximately 100 dogs from several rescues and private clients, 5 horses and many farm animals.
We will update again when we know more.
