Gift A Virtual Adoption
Our Virtual Adoption Programme is a good way of supporting some of the needy animals in the Scooby shelter. You can choose for yourself or as a gift for family and friends for 10€ per month or 115€ per year. We will send the virtual adopter a certificate, a photo of the chosen animal and updates twice per year. There are lots of animals to choose from,
including:
Granny - an oldie;
Donja - has only one ear
Zuki - had gangrene before arriving at the
shelter and lost both of her back paws;
Paris - the gentle giant and an old faithful
Alba the albino horse is there with Plus y
Ultra, the goats, alongside Cayenne y
Pepper, the donkeys. All overseen by
Blackie the head of the cats in our cattery!

Dog & Cat Adoptions
Thanks to our small network of international supporters, this year we have homed dogs and cats in Spain as well as Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, UK and USA. We love getting the feedback and pictures of the dogs and cats in their new family homes. There are so many heartwarming anecdotes. Not
only do our rescued dogs saved from abuse go through very rewarding rehabilitation with their new family, they are also fulfilling and helpful for the families in many ways. We hear stories of a new pet dog adopted from Scooby easing the pain of family bereavement or a pet dog helping children gain confidence and a sense of responsibility, or so-called “elderly” adopters being the best qualified to take on some of the dogs in view of their lifetime experience of dog ownership.
A lasting image for all of us was one of 22 galgos who were taken to the USA for homing. Within a few hours of arrival,
Zaccary was being shown the snow by his toddler companion. This just goes to show how adaptable the galgos generally are and all it takes is a warm, welcoming home with a soft bed and affection for them to switch into the family pet no sooner than you can say “can I get on the sofa please?”
Blancanieves was an unwanted Christmas present in 2021, dumped when her owner realised that she had a serious and expensive health problem. The poor puppy was born without an anal opening and defecated through the urine passage. Our vets decided the only solution to save her life was to undertake a complicated operation to reconstruct her internal organs. It was touch and go but the surgery was successful and Blancanieves was subsequently homed to a lovely family in Spain. This is so heartwarming for all of us at Scooby. Just when it seems neglect has reached the lowest of the low, the animals pull through with the skill of our vets and carers who give so much time and attention to the dogs in recovery. Now Blancanieves is going to be a TV star! Her rescue story has been picked up by TV producers and they are going to feature her in a programme about special rescue dogs.
