Kennel Renovations
You may recall from our autumn bulletin we appealed for financial help towards kennel repairs. We have not been able to do the work because we failed to raise the funds. In addition there is a lack of available, skilled bricklayers in our area. It is pretty much impossible to find labour to do the job and within a reasonable estimate (€5k).
Our appeal remains and if you are able to donate towards it, we’d be very grateful. We’d love to complete the renovations in the spring when it is less rainy. We desperately need to repair brickwork, smooth the floor area to make cleaning easier
and safer.
And now a rehoming story - not a galgo but an example of the work Scooby does.
Elsie: Has Family At Last
Great news for Elsie, the labrador we have featured in our last two bulletins: She has been adopted into a family home in the UK. Elsie was confiscated by the police from deplorable living conditions in Zamora. She came to us in an extreme state of neglect with large open wounds and a head injury. While the Scooby office worked on taking the previous owner to court for animal cruelty, our vets stabilised Elsie’s health and healed her wounds. Although the legal case is not yet settled, we were granted possession of Elsie and permission to find her a family home. Although the legal case is not yet settled, we were granted possession of Elsie and permission to find her a family home. We found that home with a family in the UK, via Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK (SSDRUK https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083407958795 ). The family took Elsie
right into their hearts from the moment we rescued her, contributing to her
medical treatment. From the very start Elsie has also been Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK’s (SSDRUKhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083407958795 ) poster dog on their collection boxes and banner. So it seemed Elsie was destined to go to the UK.
Elsie also has long-term Leishmania and is 7 years old but despite this the family was determined to adopt Elsie, having thoroughly researched Elsie’s ongoing medical needs so that they could continue the treatment from moment she arrived in the UK. The family is no stranger to adopting Scooby dogs as they already have a Scooby rescue and two other rescue dogs who will keep Elsie company. SSDRUK, honoured to be involved in Elsie’s journey, couldn’t wait to see her go to her forever home. It was quite something to see Elsie emerge from the Scooby transport (along with another 16 dogs available for adoption). Despite all she had been through, this remarkable dog stepped down from the Scooby vehicle wagging her tail.
