Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK is the UK agent responsible for rehoming abandoned and often abused dogs from the Scooby Animal Shelter in Medina, northern Spain. We find suitable foster and permanent adoption homes throughout the UK and take care of all the stages from bringing your chosen Spanish rescue from the shelter to the UK.
Our aim is to help Scooby Medina rehome the excess of dogs that they protect to prevent them living the rest of their days in the shelter, sadly there is simply not enough demand at this present time to all be rehomed in Spain. Over time we hope this might change and our services will no longer be required. This can only be achieved by educating and raising awareness throughout the rural communities of Spain into understanding the importance of neutering and to eradicate needless neglect, cruelty and abandonment for good.
You can contact us anytime on facebook messenger regarding any questions you may have about any of the dogs which are being offered up for adoption, how we operate or possibly even if you want to offer help in anyway. If you think you have found your perfect canine partner on this page, please message us and potential adopters or fosterers will be given guidance notes which include all the ins and outs you should know before considering adopting a dog from Spain and a questionnaire to fill in regarding your personal details. These are used to help the people who run the Scooby Shelter in Spain to ensure that the potential adopter is suitable for their chosen dog. The final decision is made by them as they are the people who know the dogs the best and can determine the best home for them. Once accepted, a video home check will be required to ensure that everything is in place and as it should be for when your chosen canine friend arrives.
All dogs will be spayed or neutered accordingly and will be passported, wormed and microchipped. All this is included in the adoption fee as well as health screening as set out below.
There are some diseases related to Spanish dogs related to sandflies and tick bites that are not an issue for dogs in the UK. Please note your dog will be screened for Leishmaniosis, Dirofilariosis, Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis before the adoption process is finalised. No charge will be made if the dog is tested to be positive and you choose not to proceed. More about these diseases can be obtained from SSDRUK if you require more information.
Your dog will also be inoculated from rabies as a precaution in line with DEFRA policy even though rabies is not an issue in Spain. They will receive a final overall health check by a vet before leaving Spain.
Costs include adoption fee, DEFRA fees and import duty and transport which will be via the Scooby van. The total cost to adopt a dog will start from £550.00-£680.00 depending on the mode of travel selected and the timeframe you want to select. If you want more information on prices and adoption timescales, please message.
NB. Typically with all new shelters and rescues now, they don't have a website
