'IN 2015 the PAES project - Proteccion animales España will be launched. This is a Project for any registered Associations and individual rescuers interested, who dedícate their lives to animal rescue.
The aim of the Project is to improve the welfare of animals in Spain and all aspects of that.
There is much to prepare and the success of it will depend on the collaboration of as many as possible to be involved, in order to make a powerful and dynamic quest for change for the animals in Spain.
For those of you regular readers who have followed the story of Polar, the handicapped galgo puppy left at the gates of Pepis Dog Refuge at 2 months old, here are the latest photos of him with his housemates, galgos Carmela and Bracken, and little Podenca Andaluz Bebe - the boss of the pack! Polar continues to delight us with his antics and annoy us with his mischief - especially with food, shoes, socks, bedding....the list goes on! He continues on a dose of MSM daily and shows no evidence of feeling pain in his joint. Indeed, to see him haring around the courtyard with Bracken, he has no handicap atall!
Bebe's bed is beside the woodburner - one reason is because it's small so no one else can get on it! Bracken likes the red bed in front of the French doors. So if anyone else is on there he will go and stand over them or squeeze onto a bit of the bed, till they move!
Two galgos found, one already dead. Charl del Rio tells the story.
A shameful existence of pain and horror. This poor poor couple of galgos... life is hard, dark, and cold .. this is the reality faced by many many many thousands of galgos. How many are out there tonight? Under the cold cold night and cold cold hands. Souls frozen .. owned by the devil himself.
This is the story of reality. This is why we must all stand together and be strong. Be stronger. Firmer hand in hand we must fight and we must must win. For every soul out there needs protection and a voice.
Another piece of expressive prose from the pen of Alan Brian of Pepis Dog Refuge.
DON'T BLAME ME
I have only had the dog five years, and it never was my pet,
so I have dumped it in the countryside, it will be easy to forget.
I took him to the countryside far from where he used to play,
and threw his favourite ball for him, then swiftly drove away,
he will never find his way back here, it's much to far away.
From a post by Jack Leonard on my Save the Galgos page on facebook
'This coming weekend of January 10 will begin the long awaited Spanish National Championship for the Galgo in the village of Madrigal de las Altas Torres. Thousands upon thousands of galgos have been competing this season all for the foolish dreams of their owners that they will produce the Champion of Spain. The competition is now down to a handful of dogs and the excitement is building.
Link to the article - when will they include the podencos too!!! If anyone can write to the Daily Mail and protest the podencos suffer just the same, please do. I'm laid up at the mo with a damaged back.
