Have you ever wondered what happens to the carcasses of dogs and cats killed in the Spanish perreras? Actin Association in Murcia have been carrying out an investigation which included the rescue of a couple of galgos, and an offshoot of this has raised the question. They desperately need funds to pay their lawyers, please donate.
Tunde Patko, who currently lives in Germany but has also lived elsewhere in the world, has been looking into the subject.
Kathryn and Jen, two readers of Galgo News, travelled across the Pennines from Yorkshire to Manchester on 26th January to take part in the above demonstration. Kathryn reports.
'I went to the event, meeting up with Jen and we went together. It was really great. About 350 people turned up at least but may have been more. The Hilton was surrounded! There were lots of people with bannners, memorials, wreaths and loud hailers.
112carlotagalgos was recently asked to take 8 galgos in a poor state from a gypsy camp. There were also podencos there, which Bev Farmer in Murcia has taken in. Charl's thoughts as she prepared the night before husband Dioni set off to collect the galgos. Cuenca is a bad place for galgos, Scooby takes many galgos from the Cuenca perrera. Sonia, from this perrera, found this week this poor galgo, his hind legs tied...Like this, many galgos die at this moment...end of hunting season...!
Frans Kamps. Don't give dogs to this man. He is again looking for female dodgs pretending he wants to adopt to give a good home. However, he asbuses the dogs sexually and then kills them. He has already been in court but the punishment did not fit the crime. He is now out there again looking for dogs. Take care and don't forget his face.
'UPDATE 23/01/14: We know that it has been long since the last news, but apart from the big move our vet recommended that we carried on with the medication for both Esperança and Foguete, and wait for their own body to respond before doing something more drastic like operating on Esperança’s leg, or taking Foguete for a CT scan.
We were waiting for good news, and they are: Foguete hasn’t had an incontinence episode for 3 weeks now, and is very polite and shy when he needs the loo. He doesn’t stumble anymore, doesn’t have nystagmus anymore, has been managing to close his mouth and not drooling, and only has tiny tremors when nervous.

Gemma did very well considering she says she doesn't speak English very well. I think she does!
This week Scooby added 3 more galgos to the hundreds they have waiting for forever homes. Here's what Cobie writes.
So, at last all the surviving dogs from the shit hole perrera from Mairena have been taken out of that hell. From what I understand it was a big chaos, somebody opened doors from cages and with an open gate at that time, some 30 dogs escaped, it seems that still some galgos are running free there in the neighbourhood.
