Susan Dawson does wonderful work raising funds for small greyhound and galgo rescue associations. There's still time to get your photo to her for her 2014 calendar raising funds for Pepis Refuge. She's also appealing for people to sponsor food for the galgos and podencos at Pepis Refuge - Jane and Alan have a large number of dogs to feed and rely solely on donations. You can see the dogs and details of sponsorship on this link
Are you traveling between Madrid and New York or Madrid and Boston this year, even if it is just a layover in those cities as you continue on to somewhere else? If so, you can help save dogs! All you would need to do is let us attach a dog to your airline ticket! We'll have volunteers on hand to do all of the work at both ends. We fly American from October to May and Iberia June to September. Drop us a line here or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for more information.
We have decided to adopt Polar. My French vet is marvellous at putting dogs back together; she did a superb job on my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe, who arrived from Seville with a bad back leg injury. Jane and Alan at Pepis have dozens of dogs to care for. This winter has been particularly hard for them with mudslides through the kennels on two occasions, loss of Internet for many weeks, and Alan ill. Add to this the number of dogs and puppies still being dumped at their gates - even though the sign says in Spanish 'no dogs, we are full', and the last thing they need is a puppy in convalescence.
All animal rescue associations in Spain do an amazing job, some of them are lucky enough to have hundreds of supporters to raise funds for their work. Which sadly often pushes out the small associations who lurch from month to month trying to pay feed and vet bills. You'll know from previous posts on Galgo News that Charl and 112carlotagalgos has worked tirelessly for many years - longer than many larger associations - to raise awareness of the plight of the galgos and podencos. You can read more about the dogs here.
She now has some seriously ill galgos in her care, and the vet bills are mounting up as we speak.
