Desperately urgent help needed. Pepis Dog Refuge, near Seville, has 18 galgos as well as other dogs, two of the galgas have just had pups, about 8 pups each, plus yesterday a hunter arrived at the gates with 5 galgos wanting them to take his dogs. They haven't room, please can anyone help. Their Internet access is still down, they have to go to the local village to use the Internet. On this link is their address and telephone number. They also need donations towards food and vet bills, and homes for all these dogs. They have 80 dogs there now. Please help.

So many dogs, so few homes! Truly hearbreaking. It really is about time overbreeding and misuse was brought under control. It's the same everywhere. Poor little souls, I hope they all find their forevers soon.

Same here, e-mail not getting through. Maybe due to their internet still being down?

They were on the Internet for a short while this morning. The postal address is on the link for on their website, as per the post here. I will ask Susan Dawson to add info on this thread, as she fundraises for them. Keep trying, that's all I can say at the moment. I'll try and contact them by phone.

Please keep trying, I know most days Jane usually manages to check their emails, often she has to go to the local village to do this. If emails are bouncing back, maybe their 'in-box' is full. I will try and contact them.
They are incredibly busy at the moment, thank you for all your support.

I have emailed Susan Dawson regarding how to send donations via PayPal to Pepis refuge. Here is the email for your PayPal donations:
[email protected]
Susan said you can send pounds sterling or euros but euros may be a bit easier as she has to convert the pounds to euros.

This is the first time I have seen Pepis Dog Refuge on Galgo News. I heard about them before when I donated via an ebay transaction. I have had a standing order set up for about a year and this donation goes out to them monthly. If you go on the website and read about them, they are an amazing couple, working so hard to try and help these dogs.

Hi If you put Pepis Dog Refuge in the search box on Galgo News Home page, you will find I have mentioned them many times before over the years, including earlier this year when they were flooded out, and last year when some of their dogs are poisoned. I am regularly in touch with Jane. For every one of my English books which is sent out, I enclose a slip suggesting 4 small rescue associations people can support and Pepis is one of them. Susan set up her ebay page to raise funds for them after receiving a copy of my book with one of these slips inside and the proceedsfrom the sale ofthis years calendar goes to them, which I also publicised on Galgo News last year when it was up for sale. Thanks for supporting them and caring. Beryl

Hi Beryl, I am really sorry I think I have worded my email wrongly. I am new to galgo news, only found it a couple of months ago. I should have said that I hadn't seen anything about Pepi's in my limited time using the site but then I haven't looked at everything on the site, so the fault is mine. My own galgo is from Greyhounds in Need and I am only just finding out about all the other rescues and all the different people involved with them. I don't know the couple from Pepi's but just wanted to say that I think they are wonderful and hoped that more people would visit the website and donate. Now I know a bit more about all the different rescues, I try and donate when I can but I know it's not enough. Any advice on where to donate or what I can do is appreciated.

Hi, Youre forgiven! Galgo News first appeared on the Internet in November 2007, so youve a lot of catching up to do! I try and help many shelters and associations, including in the Canary Islands - see SARA Protectora on Lanzarote and TARA on Gran Canaria. The podencos have a terrible time there. I try and post rehoming stories, when people are kind enough to send me any - so theres sometimes something happy to read.If you would like to send me the story of your galgo and why you chose one and how you heard about them, with pix, I will be pleased to post it. I regularly post appeals on behalf of many associations and shelters as you will find if you trawl back through recent pages. If you look on the page List of Galgo and Podenco associations, you will see how many there are with
links to their websites, makes interesting reading. My other blog is Podenco Post, please request the newsletter for that too. The podencos are the poor relations of the galgos in that they did not have as high a profile as the galgos, although they suffer just as badly, but not in quite such large numbers. Hopefully you will publicise the plight of the podencos too. Its a desperate situation for them but thankfully many more people are now aware of them and what marvellous pets they make too, quite different from the galgos in that they are working dogs, although they can happily be a couch potato too. Welcome to the galgo/podenco train, once on board, it is addictive! Beryl

Thank you for all the information, it is much appreciated. I have recently read about podencos and their plight, would like to read more about them, so I will look at Podenco Post. I have had my galgo for seven years and she is now 14. I am only just finding out about all the different rescues now, so I definitely have a lot of catching up to do! It would be great to let you know about my galgo's story for posting. To do this would I just reply to one of your posts? Thank you.
