Galgo in France urgently needs a true forever home

I get very cross when people adopt a galgo or podenco, and then the dog turns up in an SPA refuge - as is the case at the moment with a podenca, and also now this black galgo which is on Le Boin Coin. For those of you who don't know, it's a website where you can sell virtually anything in France!

URGENT - special adoption home needed for Jaen galgo Voyka with Wobbler Syndrome

You may remember earlier in the year I posted the story of Voyka a young galgo found abandoned, who had co-ordination problems with walking, possibly as a result of a blow to the head. This is an urgent appeal for an adoption for him, to save him going back to the kennels. There was an adoption application but, after extensive research, it was not deemed the right home for him. Because of his physical problems, he needs a really special home, with another dog, where his disability will not cause a problem. This is the report from Lourdes, who has him in her care.

Help save 3 galgos - Dutch association appeals for your vote

'We currently run an action for galgos on this link. Sorry for the Dutch partJ But please let me explain. Every dog that reaches 50 likes will be brought to Holland and adopted by a family. We as a site take all the costs for that.'

You can vote if you have a Facebook page, just click on the box below the dog's photo. If you don't have an Fb page, I'm afraid you can't vote. I've explained that many of my readers don't want Facebook pages so the dogs will lose out on many votes.

UPDATE - the 3 dogs are safe and now on their way to Holland and forever homes with The Greyhound Foundation.

Hazards of dog rescue!

Had an interesting evening last night, whilst trying to rescue an abandoned young dog, in the next village to where I live in France. The female 'owner' arrived, became aggressive, punched me in the face and threw a very heavy metal object at me - which luckily missed - but all that was because I was taking pix of her!! She didn't get my camera though! Sadly, she grabbed the dog, dumped him in her car and drove off fast.

Don't forget the Podencos - have you room for one?

If your home isn't suitable for a galgo, why not consider a podenco, there are several different types from small ones to big ones. And at the moment there are dozens waiting in the hope that someone will take them into their heart and home. Look on Podenco Post and read about them.

Amigos de los Galgos - exposing the galgo hunters in Ciudad Real June 2012

Received from Nuria Blanco, Amigos de los Galgos, who has been fighting the cause for the galgos for decades. It's a miracle the dog didn't seriously injure itself.

Update Galgo Racing Malaga - more urgent emails to send - please help stop this!

Please everyone, your help is still needed to stop galgo racing in Malaga. 112carlotagalgos and Galgos en Familia are pulling out all the stops. Here's an update from Charl del Rio.

'As we know galgos are used as "renta" dogs not pets! Therefore this gets passed off as Cultura Agriculture department. No-one wants to take responsibility to answer. Due to the welfare of the Spanish galgo and the fact that no other carrera de galgo has been held at the hipodromo in Malaga or any other in this area, they are duty bound to give information regards who placed the race there and if there will be permissions to give further races. They need flooding with emails.'

URGENT - 3 month old galgo abandoned near Seville!! Anyone any room?

Look at this - 3 months old abd already on the street! Here's the appeal.

''This galguito is left skeletal in a street of my people(village). It trembles with fear. It cannot continue in the street but I already do not have anywhere to put any more dogs. I take him food and water every day so that it does not move of the place and the neighbors will be hanging but nobody wants to receive it to me. Please, a protector who gathers it, I prepare it and send it where it is. it is very urgent as you can see. it is a preciousness(loveliness) and it is undernourished(malnourished).
