Here's the story of yet another abandoned galgo; it's typical of the hundreds across Spain, now dumped and abandoned by the hunters to whatever fate befalls them - the hunters have no mercy, they don't care.
Polyana - a brindle galga walking the streets in Sevilla, lost and alone.
Thrown out as trash and unwanted purpose with a story to tell of being a galga in Spain. Beaten down and feeling low, she wanders and begs, sneaking food where she can. Empty bins may have spilt a crumb, gravel on the floor may just have a grain, its not much to keep going but it could ease the pain.
These 9 galgo puppies are 2 months old, their galga mother was abandoned in the campo near Seville; 5 female and 4 male. They are today on their way from Scooby to France, for adoption. See more pix on the ADL website and on Facebook.
Don't forget that Scooby welcome volunteers to help in the shelter. Why not spend your holiday with Scooby in Spain.
I do not mind running
... or hunting for you
That is how I am built
That is what I do
But why do you hurt me
When with me you are done
You kill or desert me
When I no longer won
I am a galgo of soft eyes
And softer demeanor
I love all my humans
And am quite a good learner
Please do not throw me away
In your heart let me stay
Here's the latest news from Galgos del Sol on the rescue of 74 galgos from a gypsy.
'Seprona are taking action but every time they go to take the dogs, he has hidden them. Also if Seprona take them they are to be put down right away, I have heard, as there is no-where for them. So he is hiding them to prevent this but, at the same time, he doesn't want to give us these ones as they are his trophy winners. I have said we can take 13, 3 of which go to L'Europe des Levriers, so am just waiting for the call.
Between all the associations involved, so far we have managed to save 51 of his dogs, which is great news.'
Thanks for the update, Tina, well done to everyone involved, it can't have been easy - what you might call an emotional roller coaster!
Want to dress up your jacket and advertise your love of galgos? A change from the metal brooches are these attractive characters from 112carlotagalgos. And what better publicity than that Cesar Millan's rehab director wears one. There's also a pretty headband for the fashion conscious younger generation. Inexpensive and make a charming gift too. Take a look.
