I read the book and it is very informative and comprehensive! Much information about the legal situation of the galgos in Spain, about the work of the rescue organisations, about their (rather limited) possibilities and of course about the problem of mass breeding of these lovely and beautiful dogs.
I do think that when someone has contacts to Animal Planet, there should be a film version of this book!
That would spread the message!!!
People all over the World watch Animal Planet and the daily work of the Spanish rescue volunteers and all their helpers in other countries would surely be interesting for everyone.
All the people who now watch the documentary about the Houston SPCA would watch this film I am sure.
!!!

Hi Tunde Thank you
for your kind words about my book; anywhere you feel it would be advantageous to
publicise it, please do. We need to reach as many people as possible, to
help with an understanding of how the current problem has arisen and how hard it
is to bring it to an end. I was contacted a year or so back by a film
maker who was in northern Spain and came across two hunters who were just
leaving a dog they had hung up to die. He was considering making a film
about the galgos....I gave him contacts to help with his research etc. but have
never heard any more in response to my emails to him. Its a very dark
world for the galgos and podencos - the hunters and galgo racing people are
fully aware of the bad feeling against them and so close ranks - you will have
read that in Part 3 of Nano Calvos piece Hounding Misery. Ive also
approached an under cover journalist but, again, its virtually impossible to
get anywhere. Some members of the galgo hunting and racing fraternity are
not averse to resorting to physical violence against those who would expose
their activities and treatment of their dogs. At least more people are
aware of the problem through the Internet, Facebook, YouTube - there is nowhere
for the monsters to hide.
Thanks for caring and any suggestions etc you want
to give, I will always consider.

You must go undercover to get some of the facts... that is horrible!
Just like the drug mafia or the human trafficking guys...
It tells a lot about the galgueros and their practicesthat most of them want no confrontation.
I know that Nano Calvo could barely find one galguero to make his report with. Shame on all the others, they obviously have a lot to hide.
I really wonder if there are such reporters in Spain like the American ones who infiltrated the dog fighting mafia. Their Spanish counterparts could help the galgos now.

One Spanish association had a volunteer lorry
driver who would take pictures when he could...but then someone sussed him, his
family threatened...need I say more. Problem is, if it is not a Spaniard
then we wont get anywhere. And Im not sure that there are any Spanish
journalists who actually work like this. I dont mean this derogatorily,
but the British and American journalists are a lot more aggressive - just the
nature of the different cultures, person makeup. But maybe someone reading
this knows of a Spanish journalist who would have this ability and
knowledge?

Where is the Michael Corleone who has a passion of the abused galgos and podencos...? As the state of Spain does not really give a damn about animal protection, we can only pray for a miracle, for a pretty radical animal protection activist of the abovementioned type to appear on the scene and put a stop on the shameless and brutal criminal activities of the galgo mafia.

Got my copy yesterday, thank you Beryl! I have to say, first impression of this book is fantastic and well worth the money. I can tell from the table of contents and a quick flick through, it's going to tell me everything I've been wondering and will help me know how I can help more.
Curious if you've considered selling it through Amazon.com? If you can move the distribution to a mainstream channel, you may get more sales.

I received my book today and sat down and read it straight away. I think the book is great, very informative and well written. Some parts made me cry with frustration and anger. Why oh why does no one in authority in Spain do something to stop this abuse? There was a part in the book that said the rescue people have to stay cold and hard otherwise they would have an emotional breakdown . I don't wonder with all the horror that they are experiencing day in day out. They are truly amazing people. Thank you Beryl for writing this book, getting the message out there and for publicising the plight of the galgos and podencos in Spain.
