You may remember in I reported that Baas Galgo were taking to court via a denuncia a hunter in Toledo who had hung his 3 galgos - he was identified because he left microchips in. This is the latest news from Sandra Baas.
'It was agreed opening of oral proceedings in the case of the man who confessed to hanging his 3 galgos.
The Court of Instruction No. 2 of Torrijos (Toledo) has agreed to open the trial against the man who confessed to hanging two of the 3 greyhounds found in a place nearby Fuensalida in February. The perpetrator is a neighbor of the same locality. The Fiscal Ministry demands a year in prison for a crime of animal abuse. The greyhound defense association, BaasGalgo, presented as the private prosecution with the lawyer Sergio Garcia-Valle, has requested a year in prison for each of the abused animals: three years in prison in total.
Also, due to the gravity and barbarity of the acts committed to, the trial judge has admitted and asked the defendant the deposit requested by BaasGalgo amounting to 6,000 euros to "ensure financial responsibilities."
Of the course of the activities undertaken, it is considered that there are enough evidences that the defendant on February 6th, 2011 in unrealized hours and guided by the spirit of contempt for the lives of three of his dogs used for hunting (2 of them easily identified by microchip with names BALL and INIESTA and ages 22 months and 5 years respectively, and in perfect state of health), proceeded by a blue rope to hang them in the pine forests of the "Saucera" causing them acute visceral and vascular congestion generalized killing them by asphyxiation, and then in order to keep hidden the fact, proceed to bury the bodies of two dogs that were identified.
The perpetrator told the judge that "doing so was his habit at the end of hunting season". He also commented that "he did not know that hanging animals were a crime".
The practice of hanging greyhounds at the end of the hunting season or when they are no longer useful to their owners is still common in our country.
Torrijos and Fuensalida areas, in Toledo, are places where greyhounds are often found abandoned. The BaasGalgo Association has rescued there more than 50 greyhounds throughout this year.
The BaasGalgo Association is a non-profit organization that fights for the welfare and protection of these animals by promoting many solidarity actions to make citizens aware of the reality of greyhounds in Spain. In addition, rescues abandoned greyhounds, facilitating their adoption by families across the country and some foreign countries'
Well done to BaasGalgo for fighting to get this barbarian punished, let's hope it helps stop others from doing it.
