International Day of the Dog is now into its 6th year, always on the last Sunday in April. 2011 so happens to also be Easter Sunday, so I held my fundraising IDOD Dog Walk a week early on 17th April. The sun shone brightly on St Pardoux with over 50 dogs and their loving owners turning up for a leisurely stroll along the delightful lanes and tracks which surround this small village in Western France, where I live.
My wonderful support team had been busy cooking finger foods for lunch, the local French newspaper ran a feature about the walk, the local English-run kennels sponsored the rosettes and hire of the village hall - and they also donated a free water bottle/drink trough to every dog walking. The latter were gratefully accepted and much needed, as the day temperature rose to an unseasonable 22 degrees!
There were a few stalls inside the hall, as well as the food - English goods, cards and books and a tombola stall. Altogether we raised 600 euros, which is fantastic, I can't thank my team of helpers enough, without them this wouldn't be possible. SO A VERY BIG THANK YOU! The money will be used towards vet fees for sick and injured galgos in Spain.
Here are some pix at the village hall, ones en route will follow in a separate post.
lOOKS GREAT! Well done for all your hard work! Next year I really hope we can make it. Congratulations! x
