She survived being hung, now stolen and returned to a life of hell in Spain -

These are some of the lucky galgos, brought out of Spain this weekend to their forever homes in France. One had been rescued from a perrera, covered in wounds, but there is no doubt that her personality and confidence will blossom within a few weeks.

This is one of the not so lucky ones. Rescued from hanging, she had been in the refuge near Cordoba only 2 weeks when I visited at the beginning of June. She was terrified, a walking skeleton, bearing the horrendous burn marks from the cord around her neck. We arranged for her EU passport, with microchip and vaccinations in place, to be done as soon as possible.

Please can someone help Vainilla, a beautiful 3rd old galga in the perrera in Carceres. Her babies have been killed and,well, her expression says it all.

Yesterday evening Gail reported another breakthrough. 'To our complete amazement such a big breakthrough, she has come into the lounge and got up onto one of the vacant sofas. Her first time in the lounge with two of our three galgos. It is the most amazing moment in my life. I can't stop looking at her, in here with us all. If someone could bottle the feeling that I feel at the moment that person would be rich beyond imagination.'

Cristal and Parchito, help still needed to pay for their veterinary care

Let's not forget that these deserving galgos Parchito and Cristal (starving and covered in mange) also need to have their veterinary care paid for. If you can help atall, however small the amount, please donate as requested in the message.

NB When I first received the story of Parchito, I was told he had been burned alive. I can only go on what I am told. 2 people have now written in to say he was not.......................I leave you to look at his body and make your own mind up. Either way, he will need a lot of veterinary care, which will be expensive for the association.

I have been trying for weeks to get emails to the Bright Eyes Society, and they are all returned undelivered. Does anyone have an email address for them other than the one on their website?

The Killing Compounds of Spain - Worst Rated - Let's Name and Shame

LET'S EXPOSE the worst rated perreras in Spain, that is, the dogpounds where the galguerros take their galgos at the end of the hunting season in January each year, plus all the other beautiful dogs and cats abandoned by uncaring owners - the cost of putting down a dog at the moment, I'm told, is 7 euros. It takes 20 minutes for the animal to die, during which time it becomes paralyzed....................

She is another example of these incredible survivors, like Kamal,who fight to survive against all odds. One can only admire their fortitude and courage, and support the amazing volunteers who guide them through the care needed to return them to health.

600 dogs at Scooby Medina - adopt one, send a donation

News is coming in thick and fast, folks, even though it is the 'holiday' season.

Imagine having to look after 600 dogs. That is what they do at Scooby Medina, and the situation is pretty drastic. This message came from Eva.

'I am writing you in hopes of reaching out to more people and spreading
the word that Scooby desperately needs help. At the moment, there are
over 600 dogs in the shelter. We are working on adding more dogs (and
cats) to the adoption pages, but at the moment there are still many
available on the site that have been waiting for so long. Many are
from the Seville rescue from earlier this year and even some from the
2007 rescue. We have plenty of mix dogs too.
