Write to your MEP and demand he/she votes on 7th May. Stop this cruelty!
I make no apologies for the fact that this story is not about galgos or podencos. But it is about the stray dogs of Spain, and a municipal dog compound (pererra) - this particular one is in Seville but it could just as easily be in Cordoba, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia. It's where dogs, mainly, are taken to be put down. The usual method of euthenasia, the cheapest of course at 35 euros per dog, paralyses the dog and it suffers for 20 whole long minutes before its life ends.
These pictures show the filthy conditions inside the pererra - dogs and cats kept in their own excrement, starved of food and water, dying and then dumped dead in piles on rubbish sacks.
You can do your bit to stop this vile practice. Write a letter to your MEP - see previous article with details - before 7th May and demand they vote.
Spain is reckoned still to be the main holiday destination - it's time the tourists know what goes on behind the scenes and the indescribable suffering of these poor animals.
My new galga Sahara was rescued from the municipal dog compound at Cordoba, where her galguerro had taken her at the end of hunting last January. She could have ended her days like this, instead of in the comfort of a warm bed in a loving home.
