When I see pictures like this, I reflect on the dog rescue centres in the UK. I feel very humble when I think what Caridad copes with every day. What do I have to complain about?
I pray that, especially over the Christmas period when people are celebrating, eating too much, and giving presents other people don't want, someone will give Caridad a gift for her shelter.
This is Villarobledo refuge, northern Spain. Once there were 104 dogs living here! Now there are 32. The cages are not safe, as you can see.
Some dogs attack each other, and it is especially very cold there at night at the moment. Galgos cannot be left here, as they would soon be stolen.
One lady takes care of all these dogs, Caridad.
She has been doing this for 8 years. There is no money to improve the situation.
Caridad is very tired, and very depressed. She takes care of the dogs, gives them medical treatment when she can, sometimes the dogs die.
She is very afraid of what will happen if she is ever ill, and when she is too old to do this work.
I have asked my contact in Spain what people can do to help.
Update (25/01/08): Thanks from Caridad
How I would love to help Caridad in a big way! Unfortunately I'm not in a position to do so, but could send her a parcel of things for her dogs occasionally. Would this be of any use? If so I would need an address to send the parcels to.

Hi Jenny, many thanks for your message.
I will have a chat with Beryl to track down contact details for Caridad, unfortunately I don't think they have a website at the moment.
All the best, Craig

Bonjour
Just back from spending Xmas in the UK with my daughter. I will send your message to Gemma, who is the intermediary between Caridad and the rescue associations, and let you know what she says.
