As you know, for over 10 years I have publicised the plight of the galgos and podencos of Spain and fundraised for several rescue associations. In latter years David and I have fundraised and supported Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Spain, as Jane and Alan Brian coped with up to 80 dogs dumped on them by the locals. They have both suffered ill health, Alan with heart problems, Jane with back problems, but the dogs always came first. Last September they decided to 'retire' and not to take in any more dogs.
Last week Jane suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed into hospital. Rachael Lepaege has rehomed many Pepis dogs in the UK and is taking the remaining 9 Pepis dogs this week. This is going to cost thousands and so along with my fabulous galgo Polar - a Pepis dog - I am asking all my friends here to donate something...no matter how small an amount...and share this appeal. Here's Rachael's message.
'For the past 3 years we were working closely with Pepi’s refuge in Spain rehoming their dogs. To date we have brought nearly 80 from there and I myself have been out there many times. We thought we had taken the last of the dogs from there but this morning I had a message from their vet to say that Jane is gravely ill in hospital and Alan is at her bedside. He has himself already had 3 heart attacks. So the upshot is that the remaining dogs, 9 of them, need collecting urgently as there’s no one to care for them.
Despite the fact we are already up to our eyes, rescue is what we do and these dogs desperately need us right now. Until we can find space here for them they are going to have to go into residence in Spain at a cost to us. We also need to pay for them to be collected and transported to the residence. If anyone can spare any amount at all, no matter how small, I’m sure these dogs would be eternally grateful. We are hoping they will be collected in the next 48 hours.

All of us at Leash of Life send heartfelt wishes to Jane and Alan at this difficult time.
Thank you very much'
Until all the dogs are finally in forever homes, it is envisaged this rescue will cost in the region of thousands of pounds. Please help.
