The little galgo puppy with the broken leg has been named Naomi. ADAM have taken her to the vet to have her leg operated on and repaired - the bill is over 600 euros. Please donate, if you can. They are a very new small association in Seville. There is a foster home waiting for her, if she can be transported to Murcia afterwards.

If you haven't already sent your entries in, here's the link to read about the photo contest - you've until Saturday evening to get your entries in. All proceeds to helping the rescued dogs in the charity's care.
Do you remember Esperanza - starved, badly beaten and left for dead in a rubbish skip by her bloody owner. Well, she beat the bastard, she didn't die - and one year on you can see a video of her here, safe, loved and taking life steadily.
Recently Scooby Medina was visited by a dozen vets and veterinary students to help with galgos rescued from perreras throughout Spain, many of the dogs in poor condition and sick. ^ vets and 6 students helped Eric, the refuge vet, together with Dr Guillermo Couto of Ohio University, whose visit was financed by Petcare Affinity Group. They all stayed for a week, working also with Dr Pablo Gomez of Zaragoza University and some of his students.
You can see photos of the visit here. It's an illustration that it is not just about rescuing dogs, but also about the enormous amount of aftercare involved in rehabilitating the dogs and preparing them for adoption.
Do you remember Nana, the little galgo puppy in the care of Pro-Galgo and being treated for an horrendous case of mange? She then succumbed to distemper, bravely fought on and has now recovered enough to feel happy to play with other hounds. Read her progress report here.
ADAM is a very new association in Seville, concentrating on helping galgos and podencos. They don't have a shelter, and have sent out this very urgent appeal.
'We need shelter for ! NOW ! For a galgo puppy of 4 months that the owner wants to hang because it has a broken leg . If we do not remove it, he will kill it! We take care of the operation and all costs of recovery but we have no shelter or place to have it.
Beatrice Monnet, President of L'Europe des Levriers in France, has been working in galgo and podenco rescue from Spain for about a decade. In 2006 she founded EDL and it has since gone from strength to strength. I have been on many rescues with her and what I saw and learnt provided much information for my book. Here is a video of the dogs rescued in February 2012, some of them you will see are galgos in Jerez perrera which were featured on Galgo News. One poor boy lost his paw, caught in a viscious snare; two of them had filaria (heartworm) but have responded really well to treatment.
Where it says 'accueil', that means the dog is in foster and available for adoption. The two white galgos live near me in France, and I will see them next month for my 3rd Dog Walk.
MRW is an animal transport company in Spain which is used by many refuges and association to move animals from perreras, refuges etc. They are used in preference to private transport companies because they are cheaper.
This is a translation of an article in the Spanish press.
MRW mistreats the animals they transport. Seprona has verified this information.
Arca Madrid says that is a scam to get money. Refugiocan, in Valencia, has also verified it. They say that:
As Protective Association we corroborate what Seprona says.
