Urgent Appeal from SOS Galgos, Barcelona - help their galgos

Anna Clements, Director of SOS Galgos in Barcelona, has sent out this urgent message.

Dear Friends,

Have you heard the exciting news? SOS Galgos has been kindly given use of a great location in Esplugues de Llobregat, exclusively to aid in the adoption of our dogs that are desperately in need. It is an amazing opportunity to create a space for adoptions and events that will benefit each and every dog that we save. However, we have this space for 6 months only! So what does this mean? We must act fast!!

What is our plan? For the next 6 months we plan to advertise ‘Adoption hours’ at this new ‘Adoption clinic’ for members of the public to come and see many galgos at once. This should increase greatly the number of galgos adopted. We know that without the help and support of you this gift of space cannot be a success.

Food Crisis at Scooby Medina - a new law which will affect all the animal refuges in Spain

This news is from Scooby Medina. What they have to say about this new law will affect not just Scooby but all the animal refuges in Spain. I have seen for myself how the dogs love the raw chicken carcases, the chicken bones are soft and so not dangerous for the dogs to eat. It is only after chicken is cooked that the bones become brittle and can cause untold problems if a dog swallows one.

'We are reaching out to you at a very critical time at our shelter. The dogs desperately need our help at this time. We are very close to disastrous food crisis for the dogs.

Action needed by the EC on enforcing improved animal welfare conditions in Europe

The following is a report from the Eurogroup for Animals in respect of animal welfare conditions in Europe.

'The European Parliament has called on the European Commission to take clear action to improve the welfare conditions of animals throughout the course of its current mandate. Voting overwhelmingly in favour of Marit Paulsen’s report on the Evaluation and Assessment of the Animal Welfare Action Plan 2006-2010, MEPs signalled that they would like to see measures put in place to develop, implement and enforce animal welfare legislation.

Luxury Accommodation in Tenerife - Podencos urgently need help

This is a picture of conditions in which podencos have been kept on Tenerife. It's desperate that they are rescued. Podenco Rescue has all the information, and they will liaise with the Tenerife association trying to get the dogs out. Please help these deserving dogs. And let's hope the man is prosecuted.

Baas Galgo helps 8 lucky Cordoba galgos off to Holland and forever homes

Baas Galgo recently purchased a van to enable them to transport galgos from the Villa del Rio shelter in Cordoba to Holland and forever homes. Remember that Letitia is the volunteer who has been coping with the 90 galgos callously abandoned at the shelter at the end of January! You can read about the trip to Holland for 8 lucky galgos here.
