An appeal for someone to take this little podenca. She is a Podenca Andaluz, weighing 5 kgs - the same breed of podenca as my own Bebe, who weighs in at just 6 kgs. She was found in the hellhole of Badajoz, wherein is the worst perrera in Spain - Olivenza.
The girl who found her writes:
PODENQUITA: Abandoned in a village in the province of Badajoz, when I came upon her, I noticed something strange when she struck her head walking into walls or traffic signals, poor thing, I took her right away.

Pat Getz, one of the greyhound/galgo supporters in the US, has been in contact with public officials at St Augustine, the neighbouring city to Aviles, who suggested to her that we write to Senor Martinez, as well as the Mayor. Pat has composed these letters, please everyone, email Senor Ignacio with both letters. Action needs to be taken quickly to help these poor dogs and cats.

This is yet another example of the despicable heartlessness of Spanish hunters; this podenca was abandoned about a month ago in a village 90 kms from Albacete. Some people are leaving her food, but she is obviously starving to death.
These are the contact details if anyone can help get her and take her in.

Valarie Woolf has been kind enough to compose a letter for us all to send to the Mayor of Aviles with regard to the terrible conditions in which the dogs and cats are kept.
There is an English version, and I have also translated it to Spanish using Spanishdict.com, so those of who who speak Spanish, please excuse any mistakes.
Please send off your letters, get all your family and friends to do so. Aviles is on the northern coast of Spain and wishes to attract holidaymakers. They need to know the life of hell behind the waterfront centres!

This is the 'shelter' at Aviles, Asturia. Cuencanimal and Associacion Salvanimal-France have sent this report.
'The deplorable situation of these dogs and cats shows the lack of sensitivity that has Pilar Varela, mayor of the Municipality of Avilés, for animals
When you get to where they are crowded, more than eighty dogs and cats are housed there, a strong smell hits you, anticipating the terrible images of the situation these animals are forced to exist in. A sign at the entrance warns that "No animals are picked up or delivered'. Dogs and cats barely survive in this hell of Avilés, sharing their space with tons of rubble and dirt, with rats, in cages consisting of pallets and mattresses.
