All in a day's work in a perrera in Spain!

At the end of the day in a perrera in Spain - whilst the method of euthanasia was probably the cheapest, and painful, at least they will not have to suffer any more.

And this isn't the fate of just Spain's abandoned dogs - it is the fate of thousands of dogs throughout Europe, including Croatia, Turkey, Serbia, Romania. I am receiving appeals to post petitions about this on Galgo News, but I can't help them all - this journal is chiefly about the galgos and podencos.

THe European Commission and individual member states HAVE to deal with the problem at source, which is strict control of breeding of all dogs, and a mass neutering programme.

The Gift of Life is the greatest gift, and the gift of the love of a dog is second - it is unconditional, no holds barred, whatever is done to it.

'Here in this house' - Thank You from an adopted dog

A beautiful piece of poetry received today - a beautiful animated drawing accompanied it, but that is copyrighted, so I've put my own pic here.

Here in this house... I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks
of the other dogs 'out there'.

I can sleep soundly, assured that when I
wake, my world will not have changed. I will never know hunger, or the fear of
not knowing if I'll eat. I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from
the heat. I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness, and be
allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.

I'd just like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who reads Galgo News, comments on posts, and joins in the letter writing and petition signing posts which I highlight. Whilst my aim is to highlight the plight of the galgos and podencos, I get emails appealing for help to highlight the stray/abandoned dog problem in other countries which have now joined the EU.

We should remember that, in order to help the galgos especially and all the abandoned dogs of Spain, we have to target not just the Spanish government, but also the European Commission.

Cadiz Perrera - dogs on death row - they didn't ask to be born and thrown away

Here are four of the beautiful dogs on death row at Cadiz Perrera. The perrera is full, there is no more space. Besides galgos and podencos, there are even crossed huskies. I never understand how a Husky can live in the heat of the Mediterranean!

Galga Holly - saved and safe - can anyone help home her puppies?

There are so many terrible tales about galgos and other abandoned dogs in Spain, that I have to limit myself to galgos and podencos. This email has just come in from a lady in Spain who has been a supporter of abandoned dogs for many years. The information in the message illustrates just what a terrible time abandoned galgos have.

This is a plea for donations of things which can be used for the puppies, such as an old fruit box, blankets, towels, anything to keep these puppies warm till help arrives for them. Some have already died from the cold.

Starving Galga in Seville - can anyone help catch her?

Starving galga in a terrible state on the streets of Seville; very frightened and only approaches food when the person leaving it for her goes away; she won't survive much longer. This person cannot afford to feed the dog and askes for an association to catch her. Please help.
