Galga Kenia update - fighting a monstrous cancer growth

Here's the latest news about Kenia.

Kenia is in the residence taking the treatment for Erlichia. Her plaquets are still low and she can´t be operated at the moment but the situation is urgent due to the inflamation of the cancer. Kenia is in the dog shelter. We pay for the dogs who need treatment twice a day or more. Teresa hopes that the next blood test gives us better results.

We are looking for a foster home but there´s no offer for her. Please contact the association urgently if you can help foster Kenia.

Scooby Medina, Spain - adopt a long term resident

I've received this update from Eva at Scooby Medina, following the appeal for people to adopt some of the dogs which have been in their shelters for over a year, some for much longer. Let's keep the effort going!

Many thanks for your responses to the previous email that was sent about long time Scooby dogs with no requests.

I am please to share that 5 dogs have already been reserved. Basu, Ciro, Elo, Moreno and Vagabundo. And this is all because of you who helped spread the word to find them a home or simply because you choose to take these dogs into your groups! Thank you!

Podenco stoned to death in Tenerife, Canary Islands - Please Take Action

The following email arrived in my Inbox this morning. Please read and take the action requested. The suffering of this poor dog does not bear thinking about.

On Oct.2nd a dog that was supposedly a family member was cruelly killed in Guimar on one of Canary Islands Tenerife by a 16 years old boy by being stoned and beaten so long until the dog died.

The poor dog was a Podenco ( Spanish hunting dog ), people thought he was stray, he was so malnourished and looking absolutely neglected, but it was later found out that he was a family member( had a microchip ) and killed allegedly by the owner itself( the boy).

Update on Cristal - Saved in Spain, adopted in Germany

Do you remember the white galga, Cristal, suffering from a severe bout of mange, with those beautiful odd eyes, which tugged at the heartstrings.

Cristal is now in her foster home, with some new friends, 2 cats and 2 dogs. She is great with both. She is more and more caring and loving, though she still fears people she does not know. She goes for a walk in open spaces, so she is calmer, and learning to walk well outside of the home.

Carmela - abused by a Spanish hunter - discovering the good life after rescue

On the way back from my trip in June to Cordoba with the French association L'Europe des Levriers, I collected a galga named Carmela, who was coming back with me for fostering and rehoming. I already have my galga Sahara, Podenca Ebano Bebe, and French levrier X Floyd - my Swedish Valhund Pepsi having disappeared presumed stolen at the beginning of August.

Carmela's history is a little unclear; taken to a perrera for euthanasia at the end of hunting in January, she had arrived at a refuge, been taken on by EDL for adoption and rehoming in France. She was part of the galgos which travelled to France in April 2009, adopted by a family in southern France.
