Greyhounds In Nood Belgium - on a mercy mission to Madrid

Over a period of 7 days at the beginning of June, a team from Greyhounds In Nood, Belgium, travelled overland with a van load of goods through France to Spain and Madrid, to visit refuges in the area with hundreds of galgos. This is the story of their trip, fascinating and moving.

At one refuge, they were introduced to a 6-week old galga puppy which had been dumped in a rubbish bin, covered in vermin. At another refuge, there were more than 300 galgos.

This story makes the proposed introduction in Belgium in October of a law prohibiting the importing of dogs from outside that country even more appalling.

In the Philippines, House Bill No. 5291—An Act Granting the Fox Millenium Amusement Club a Franchise to Construct, Operate and Maintain a Greyhound Racetrack—would make dog racing legal in the city of Mandaue. This dangerous measure has already been approved by a legislative conference committee.

Passion Podenco Belgium - adopt a podenco

To adopt a podenco in Belgium, visit this website. Warning, prepare to have your hearing blasted! The music is VERY loud! There are some rather nice cards on sale too. I am trying to find out what will happen to them if the proposed change in law in October comes into force, prohibiting dogs from outside Belgium being imported into the country for adoption.

Podenca puppy Miffay - in Valencia - adopt her - give her a life

Can you help Miffay. She is an adorable podenca of 6 months. She was abandoned and found in a pitiable state along with another little bitch, had been attacked by processionary caterpillars which affected her tonque but, with veterinary treatment, has been restored to good health by the refuge in Valencia. She eats and drinks normally, is quiet and affectionate, and also nervous of strangers, but this will improve in a forever home. She will be a wonderful family member, and will love to play with children.

Please give her a chance of a normal life.

Transportation of Live Dogs from Spain - Solving the Problem

Cobie Steketee is the amazing Dutch lady who runs one of the shelters in Cordoba from which we brought several galgos to rehome in France. She has written an article about the problems many shelters face with regard to transporting dogs around Spain and elsewhere.

It has been almost two and a half years now that I have worked as a volunteer in numerus Spanish shelters/dogs homes. According to my connections through this period of time, it has become obvious that many of the shelters and adoption charities seem to run into the same problem time and time again… that being, the transportation of the dogs to other European Countries outside of Spain itself.

A lot of the Spanish dogs can easily be rehomed in other countries, but the biggest problem is, how to get them there with reasonable expense coverage. It is due to this problem that many dogs still remain in the Spanish shelters for a long period of time and these shelters quickly become overfull.

URGENT - Sign the Petition - Stop the change of law in Belgium in October

In October, due to a change in Belgian law, no organization can import dogs from abroad. This means that organizations dedicated to Spanish Galgos and Greyhounds have to cease their activities. Hundreds of these dogs travel to Belgium every year to be adopted, to find families and a life full of love and affection.

Let's all try to fight this law, to stop it applying to galgos and greyhounds, as without our help they will have no chance of being adopted.

Green Drinking Water - Mairena del Aljarafe should take action!

A message via Charl, a plea for help for the galgos struggling in the perrera at Mairena del Aljarafe, in Sevilla.

'So.. yet again the galgos are being disregarded en masse, firstly by their hunters, secondly at the public shelters they land into which practise euthanasia. I am not saying I am against or for this, what i am saying is, they are rarely given the opportunity to even be offered as pets, .. so sent on in order to be put down. Living in squalor while awaiting their number.

Mairena del Aljarafe is a town of Sevilla, there has been a plea made for 20 - 25 galgos kept in a society there, and from there they are taken on Tuesdays and Thursdays to be sacrificed. In the early pictures the water is green and the food was placed inbetween the faeces and urine, just thrown on the floor. Having been noted that someone has been taking photographs, the water is cleaner, but the points are still the same.

It's not just here, it's in hundreds of Spanish towns - but here is where the plea is at the moment. If you have a place which can offer a galgo a home, one it has probably never known, the rewards are tremendous. Theres no love like a galgo's love. Email if you can help.

Niort to Cordoba in 4 days - Helping the Galgos - no holiday, this!

Here's the story of my recent trip from my home in France to Cordoba and back, with a team from L'Europe des Levriers. We brought 14 galgos and a couple of podencos back with us, for fostering and rehoming in France.

It was hot and sunny in Parthenay when I set off. ‘Hope you’ve got air conditioning in the car’, commented my co-driver. Well, of course I have, I just open the windows! ‘There’s rain forecast for Madrid and Cordoba’, she said hopefully; she doesn’t like hot weather.
