Castille La Mancha is a bad region if you are a galgo. And even worse if you are abandoned. News in from Galgos sin Fronteras of two abandoned galgos which were eventually saved.
At the beginning of February, two galgos encamped near a house in the middle of nowhere. They were there several days - why were they left this long? Would it have happened if it had been a man? No! So why did it happen to 2 dogs?!
One of them did not move, all that time. The other one fled, as soon as there was any noise.
At last a volunteer came to see what she could do.
It was dreadfully cold, totally isolated. The female, who was renamed Lola, fled as soon as the volunteer arrived. The male, renamed Alpaca, didn't move - a skeleton, shivering with fear, exhausted. Eventually the volunteer managed to approach him with food. And then, after a lot of time and patience, consumed by hunger, Lola also approached, fearful, but hunger got the better of her and she eventually started to eat.
Then came the problem of trying to get these starving terried galgos into a vehicle to take them to a refuge. Alpaca, the immobile male, was not so much a problem to lift into the car, but the terrified Lola kept running away. And yet, these two were inseparable, maybe brother and sister, and with patience eventually she plucked up courage to let the volunteer touch her and hold her and get her into the car too.
The volunteer had been calling Cristina Garcia, of Galgos sans Fronteras, and although it is difficult at this time of year when the refuges are bursting with abandoned galgos, she was able to help. It is probably the first time that the male, Alpaca, had slept upon a blanket, the first time he had not been hurt, the first time the pair of them had received kindness and caresses. They are inseparable, loving galgos.
Cristina takes so many galgos from the municipal compounds, she pays kennel fees, vets fees, and on top of this she has now taken these two wonderful affectionate galgos to find good homes for them.
These two galgos, good and incredibly affectionate even after all they have been through, whom some indescribable galguerro cared not one jot, who abandoned them in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold, just because they no longer served a purpose to him, will now experience regular meals and a warm comfortable bed for the rest of their lives, when they find their forever homes.
A million thanks to Cristina, in the name of Paco and Lola.
And a lifetime curse upon you and your family, heartless galguerro.
