Abandoned in Toledo - can anyone help this galga?

Galgo rescue
Help, please, with this case. Another galga on the streets of Toledo, abandoned, difficult to rescue, but they are not giving up.

She is only about 8 months, with a male hanging around.... more babies if she comes into season.

Please, any offers of help in the area to rescue or foster/adoption.

Holidaying in Spain? - look out for the hunters

Charlotte, a tireless campaigner for galgos, recently had an article published in The Euro Weekly News, highlighting the plight of the galgos in Spain, as the hunting season is set to start next month.

She is, however, somewhat frustrated in that the editor of the paper has used his 'editorial licence' and linked the article to Adana refuge, rather than to Charlotte herself.

Whilst Adana does fantastic work for abandoned animals in southern Spain, they are not as heavily involved with rescuing galgos as many of the other associations and refuges with which Charlotte has contact.

Here is the plight of greyhounds article.

Mo Swatek - Things have to Change in Spain

Mo Swatek
Mo Swatek founded the organisation Pro-Galgo in 1999 and, with the help of her colleagues, has placed in the last 10 years more than 1,300 greyhounds and podencos in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria and elsewhere. But very few dogs are adopted in Spain.

She was born in Switzerland and has lived a little more than 50 years next to a greyhound or galgo or other sighthound. She wanted to help the galgos after hearing about them being hung and persuaded her Spanish husband to move to Spain so she could work to help the hounds.

Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo spoke to her:

Lost - have you seen this beauty - Rita?

Rita lostSaturday 16-8-08

Walking along Avenida de San Luis (Barrio de Hortaleza Colinda con El Barrio de La Uva), Madrid, Rita, as she is called, got scared suddenly and ran off. Her owner looked for her for hours but to no avail.

She is a galga who is 3 and a half, has a chip and very sociable. She was adopted as a pup.

She has a leather collar (galguero type) and has an anti parasite collar. If you see her PLEASE contact below. PLEASE forward the information or put up posters, anything to help.

The fear is she was near a gypsy area. The family are desperate, as you can imagine.

Karmel - update on a lifetime of medical treatment

KarmelAfter the diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceous (PF) a couple of weeks ago, my vet has been researching the best treatment for Karmel.

Because of the serious effects on her body, the dose of Megasolone was doubled, to knock the PF on the head!

She has been bathed in special shampoo, which has got rid of the loose dead hair, and her skin is now not such a bright pink.

She now has weekly visits to the vet, to monitor her condition.

Perla - living life with only 2 feet

PerlaAnother galgo who suffered on the streets before she was able to be caught.

Two damaged feet, but the volunteers refused to 'throw the towel in'.

It has taken months for her injuries to be treated and to heal, but these pictures show that she amazingly she is able to enjoy life with only two feet.
